About Sandra Gutierrez
Born in the USA, Sandra, The Culinary Latinista ™ , lived in Latin America for 13 years, where she learned about Latin cuisine. She traveled extensively and apprenticed in the kitchens of many Latin cooks, learning and researching all she could on the subject of Latin food. A food writer by trade, she is the former food columnist for The Cary News, where she featured a weekly column for almost 8 years covering topics as varied as food history, ingredient-based cooking, ethnic and American cuisines, cookbook reviews, and cooking techniques for novice and advanced cooks. She featured exclusive interviews with celebrities including: Emeril Lagasse, Sara Moulton, Alton Brown, Jean Anderson, Steven Raichlen, David Rosengarten, Patricia Wells and many other world renowned food and wine personalities, such as Michael Green, Wine Consultant for Gourmet Magazine. Sandra has also interviewed many local chefs, including Lionel Vatinet, Ben and Karen Barker, and Sara Foster. As a recipe tester and developer, Sandra has had over 1500 original recipes and over 600 articles published. Her articles and recipes have also been featured in magazines, including: TASTE-FULL, EASY, RELISH, ducklings, Brier Creek Magazine, Military Officer Magazine and The Raleigh Downtowner. Sandra is a Contributing Editor for Edible Piedmont. She served as a member of the Advisory Board and the Hispanic Advisor for ducklings, a magazine published by Albertson’s. Sandra, a regular cooking instructor around the Triangle, including A Southern Season in Chapel Hill and Williams-Sonoma; she also teaches from her home cooking studio in Cary, NC. She is frequently called on to assist other culinary personalities in their classes or book signings in and around the Triangle including chefs Emeril Lagasse , Sara Moulton, Daisy Martinez, Hugh Carpenter, Presidential Pastry Chef Roland Mesnier, Jean Anderson, and the Grande Dame of Mexican Cuisine, Diana Kennedy. Sandra has been featured in Military Officer Magazine, the News and Observer, the Pilot, and on NBC-17, among others. In a career that spans two decades, this food writer and professional cooking instructor has taught thousands how to cook. Sandra is a member of the International Association of Culinary Professionals IACP and of the Triangle Area Freelancers (TAF). Sandra is also a member of the Board of Directors of Cary Academy, a college-preparatory school located in Cary, North Carolina.
