Sandra Gutierrez

Born in the USA, Sandra grew up in Guatemala. A food writer by trade, she is the former food columnist for The Cary News, NC. She featured a weekly column for 8 years, on food history, cookbook reviews, recipes, and cooking techniques. She featured exclusive interviews with celebrities including Emeril Lagasse, Sara Moulton, Jean Anderson, Patricia Wells, Chefs Karen and Ben Barker of Magnolia Grill, and Michael Green, wine consultant of Gourmet Magazine. As a recipe tester and developer, Sandra has had over 1500 original recipes and over 600 articles published. Sandra served as the Hispanic Advisor for "ducklings" magazine, published by Albertson’s. Her writings also appeared in TASTE-FULL magazine, EASY magazine, and in "ducklings". Sandra is a cooking instructor at A Southern Season in Chapel Hill, and in Cary, NC. She is frequently called on to assist other instructors in their classes and has assisted numerous celebrities including Daisy Martinez, Hugh Carpenter, Presidential Pastry Chef Roland Mesnier,and Diana Kennedy. In a career that spans two decades, this food writer and professional cooking instructor has taught thousands how to cook.

Our 2nd New Southern-Latino Table Dinner Party!

I'm sure you're still stuffed from our first dinner party last week, but it's time for another virtual feast! We're celebrating the publication of The New Southern-Latino Table: Recipes That Bring Together the Bold and Beloved Flavors of Latin America and the American South, by Sandra A. Gutierrez. Guest food bloggers are cooking the recipes, and we're crossposting their experiences here and at UNC Press blog, uncpressblog.com.

Welcome to the New Southern-Latino Table Dinner Party!

Welcome to the first New Southern-Latino Table Dinner Party! This virtual dinner party is the first of three such events we'll be hosting to help celebrate the publication of The New Southern-Latino Table: Recipes That Bring Together the Bold and Beloved Flavors of Latin America and the American South, by Sandra A. Gutierrez.

We asked nine food bloggers to cook, photograph, and blog about recipes from the book. Each of three dinner parties will feature posts from three bloggers who have prepared different dishes. Their entries---including the recipes from the book---will be crossposted in full here and at UNC Press Blog, uncpressblog.com, and we'll link to the sites where the posts originally appeared so you can go explore those sites and get to know some food bloggers that may be new to you.
